From GhostbustersNative New Yorker Susan Alexandra Weaver (Sigourney is a stage name she took from The Great Gatsby) was born into a theatrical family and studied performing arts at Stanford and Yale.  Her first film role was in Annie Hall, but great fame and critical success followed when she appeared two years later in Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien.  Her performance in each subsequent Alien film (Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien: Resurrection) made Ripley an iconic character in cinema.

Other science fiction and horror credits include Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II (and she is slated to appear in the forthcoming Ghostbusters III), Galaxy Quest, The Village, and Avatar.  She also voice acted in one of the best Futurama episodes, Love and Rocket, as the Planet Express ship’s personality upgrade.  The Scream Awards honored her in 2010 for her work in science fiction, horror and fantasy films.
